Chrome doesn't have a built-in "lock the browser" password. Sam Soft Privacy Shield adds one, so anyone who opens Chrome hits a lock screen until they enter your master password.
Steps
- Add the extension. Install Sam Soft Privacy Shield (free).
- Create your master password. Set a strong one when prompted — it becomes Chrome's lock.
- Choose when it locks. Pick an auto-lock timer (5 min–5 hrs), or lock instantly with Ctrl+Shift+L.
- Unlock to continue. Enter your master password and your tabs return.
Unlike a Chrome profile PIN (which only gates a profile switch), this locks the active browser and every open tab — the closest thing to locking Chrome the way you lock your phone.
